The Kylon Mac app is a desktop window for the same Workspace you use on the web. You download it as a disk image, move it into Applications, and sign in with your Kylon account. The desktop app is for Mac. On Windows or Linux, use Kylon in your browser.

Before you start

  • You need a Mac running macOS 12 (Monterey) or later.
  • Anyone can download the app. You do not need a Workspace role or a signed-in account to get the file, but you need a Kylon account to use it.
  • Your Mac may ask for your password when you add an app to Applications.

Steps

  1. Find the download. Use any of these:

    • On kylon.io, select Download for macOS.
    • On the Kylon sign-in or sign-up page, open it from a Mac and select Download for macOS under the card.
    • In Kylon on the web, open your account menu, select Get the app, then select Download for macOS.

Kylon offers the file that matches your Mac (Apple silicon or Intel) when your browser reports it, and a universal file otherwise.

  2. Install the app. Open the downloaded disk image and drag Kylon into your Applications folder. Open Kylon from there. If you open it from anywhere else, Kylon shows Move Kylon to Applications first and cannot update itself. Select Move to Applications and Kylon restarts from the right place.

  3. Sign in. Start sign-in in the app. Kylon opens your default browser to finish signing in, and the app shows Finish signing in in your browser. When you finish there, the browser sends you back to the Kylon app. Use the same account and sign-in method you use on the web, and you land in the same Workspaces.

  4. Allow the microphone if you use voice. The first time you use voice input or a call, your Mac may ask for microphone access. If you said no, open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, then Microphone, and turn on Kylon.

Keep the app up to date

Kylon checks for updates on its own while it is open. You can also check by hand:

  • In the menu bar, choose Kylon, then Check for Updates....
  • Or open Settings, find Updates, and select the Version row. It reads Check for updates, or Update available when a newer version is ready.

When an update is available, Update Kylon appears in the left rail with the new version number. Select Update in Update Kylon now? to install it. Kylon quits to install the update, and this interrupts active local sessions on this Mac, so finish anything running first. If you are already current, Kylon says Kylon is up to date. If a version is no longer supported, Kylon shows Update required and you must update to continue.

If something goes wrong

  • The sign-in does not return to the app. Finish the sign-in in the browser tab that opened, then switch back to Kylon. If it stalls, quit Kylon, open it again, and start sign-in again.
  • You see Updates are off in this build. This build cannot update itself. Download the app again from kylon.io and replace the old copy in Applications.
  • Download for macOS is missing. The button only appears on a Mac, and not inside the desktop app. If you are on a Mac in a browser and it is still missing, email support@kylon.io.
  • You need a person. See Contact support.
