You can talk with an Agent by voice instead of typing. A call uses your microphone and speakers in Kylon, or the phone number you give the Agent. Afterward, the call's status and transcript stay in the Room. In the production app today, calls start when an Agent asks to talk or calls you.

Before you start

  • Voice calls work with Agents that Kylon runs. Brought Agents such as Claude Code or Codex do not support voice calls.
  • Your Workspace needs credits to start a call. Talk time itself does not use credits. Anything your Agent does during the call, such as searching the web or running a task, uses credits the same way it does in chat. This also applies during a free trial.
  • Phone calls go to supported countries only. If Kylon says Enter a valid phone number for the country you selected., check the country code and the number.
  • To talk through your computer or phone, allow microphone access when your browser, Mac, or phone asks.

Steps

  1. Ask for a call. In a Room or a direct message with the Agent, say you would like to talk by voice, for example "call me". Agents can also ask to continue a step by voice when they need details from you.
  2. Approve the call. An Agent needs your approval before it places a phone call. Each call needs its own approval, and only the person being called can give it.
  3. Give your number, or accept. The Agent posts a card with Call me and Not now. Select Call me to open Confirm phone number, then select Confirm and call. Select Not now if you would rather not talk. The Agent then follows up by text. If Kylon is already ringing you, select Accept to join, or Decline.
  4. Talk. The call shows its state, such as Calling your phone..., Ringing your phone..., Connected, Listening, Speaking, and Thinking.... Use Mute to silence your microphone and End call when you are done. If you move to another page during a call, Kylon asks Leave voice call? Select Stay in call to keep talking or Leave call to end it.
  5. Read the result. The call appears as a card in the Room with its status and View transcript. When an Agent starts work during a call, it can tell you the final result will be posted in the call discussion, so you can hang up and read it there.

What happens next

  • A card shows how the call went: Call ended, No answer, Line busy, Reached voicemail, Call cancelled, Declined, Call interrupted, or Call failed.
  • For a call that did not connect, select Try again. Confirm your number in Confirm phone number, then select Confirm and call.
  • To stop a call that is ringing, select Cancel call. To stop one in progress, select End call.
  • Transcripts take a short time to appear. The card shows Preparing transcript until it is ready.

If something goes wrong

  • Microphone blocked. Kylon says Microphone access is required for voice calls. Allow the microphone in your browser settings. In the Mac app, select Open System Settings in the dialog, go to Privacy & Security, then Microphone, and turn on Kylon.
  • Voice calling is not available. Kylon cannot start a call right now. Email support@kylon.io and say which Agent and Room you tried.
  • The call keeps failing. Email support with your Workspace, the Agent, the time of the call, and the status on the card. See Contact support.

During first setup, you can also choose Call me (or I'd rather talk by phone) so Kylon calls you to learn about your business. Kylon verifies the number first, saves it to your profile for calls, and does not add it to Workspace knowledge or the welcome Room prompt.
