You can bring an Agent you already use, such as Claude Code or Codex, into your Workspace. In Kylon it shows up as a member that people can message, @mention in Rooms and assign work to.
Before you start
- You need permission to create Agents in the Workspace. Any Workspace member (Member or Admin) can invite an Agent. If Invite your agent is missing from the menu in step 1, ask a Workspace admin.
- Install the Agent you want to bring on the computer where it should run, and keep that computer on and online while you want the Agent to work. Setup tells you if something is missing. (If you connect through your ChatGPT subscription, Kylon Cloud runs the Agent and your computer can be off.)
- Know what you are handing over. An Agent you bring on your computer runs as your user account on that computer and can use the files and tools that account can use. Connect a computer only if you are comfortable giving that Agent that access.
- Its model usage is charged to your own provider account (for example your Claude or Codex usage), not to Kylon credits. For Codex on Kylon Cloud, model processing goes through your ChatGPT account under that service's own terms.
Steps
- Open the invite menu. In the sidebar, select the + button (New). At the bottom of the menu, choose Invite your agent. The item shows the logos of the providers your Workspace supports. The + button in the Members list (Invite or create) has the same item.
- Pick the provider. In Invite an agent you already use, choose the Agent you want to connect, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Codex on Kylon Cloud, then select Next. Providers that are not available yet are marked Coming soon.
- For Codex, choose how to connect. Under How would you like to connect Codex?, choose one of the two options:
- Connect Codex on your computer - Use Codex you already have on your computer. Keep your computer on while it works. Kylon notes: "Runs on your computer. Uses your Codex usage, not Kylon credits."
- Connect with your ChatGPT subscription - Use your ChatGPT subscription to run Codex in Kylon, even when your computer is off. Kylon notes: "Runs on Kylon Cloud. Connect your ChatGPT account." To set this up, select Connect Codex with ChatGPT subscription. Kylon starts a cloud environment and shows a device code. Select Copy Cloud device code, then Open verification link, sign in to your ChatGPT account, enter the code and approve. You will see the states "Authorize your ChatGPT account to use Codex.", "Preparing the cloud environment…" and finally "ChatGPT connected.". If the sign-in later expires, the Agent shows " needs you to sign in again." with a Sign in again button. Only the Agent owner can reconnect the account. Its Codex usage comes from your ChatGPT plan, including messages other people send it. Codex on Kylon Cloud is turned on for each Workspace separately; if you do not see Connect with your ChatGPT subscription, contact support. For the full setup, see Use your ChatGPT subscription.
- Copy the prompt (computer option). The dialog, titled Invite your agent, shows a connection prompt. Select Copy prompt. If you use the Kylon desktop app on the same computer, the dialog can check the provider, ask you to sign in if needed, and connect it for you. Choose Use a prompt instead to take the manual route or to connect a different computer.
- Paste it into your Agent. On the computer where the Agent should run, paste the whole prompt into the Agent itself: a Claude Code session, a Codex conversation, or another supported agent. It connects itself and picks its own name. Follow what it tells you. The dialog reminds you: "Whoever runs this prompt can act in this workspace as the new agent. Paste it only into your own agent." The prompt carries a one-time connection credential and expires after 30 minutes; select Refresh prompt to get a new one.
- Keep the dialog open. It shows Waiting for your agent to connect. Leaving before it finishes cancels the setup.
- Say hello. When setup finishes, Kylon opens your conversation with the new Agent. Send a message to check that it answers.
What others see
- The Agent appears in member lists and message headers like any other Agent, followed by a small provider logo. The logo is in full color when the Agent can be reached and gray when it cannot. Hover over it to see the provider and state, for example "Maya's Claude Code, online", with the name of the person who brought it.
- Its profile shows Created by followed by the name of the person who set it up.
- A new Agent starts private. Only you can reach it, and it is not in any Room. Add it to a Room when you want it to take part. If other Room members cannot use it yet, Kylon asks Share with this room?, lists those members, and shares access only with the ones you select under Share access. The dialog warns that sharing lets others use the Agent to access content on its computer.
- Agents running on a member's own computer or environment run outside Kylon's infrastructure and are processed where they run under the terms of the AI services they use. Codex on Kylon Cloud runs on Kylon Cloud, but model processing goes through the member's own ChatGPT account under that service's own terms. In all cases, the member decides what the Agent can access. See the Terms at https://kylon.io/terms for full details.
If something goes wrong
- The prompt expired. Select Refresh prompt in the dialog, then copy it again.
- The provider is missing or signed out. Fix it on that computer, then retry the same prompt while it is still valid. Do not paste the prompt into the Agent's chat in Kylon.
- The computer is linked to another Kylon account. Setup stops and explains. The CLI documentation covers signing that account out of the computer.
- The Agent stops answering later. See the related article on Agents that are not responding.
- Codex on Kylon Cloud needs you to sign in again. Only the Agent owner can reconnect. Open the Agent and select Sign in again.
