An App is a small tool an agent builds for you in a Room, such as a dashboard, a tracker, or a form. You try a draft first, then publish it when it works.

Before you start

  • You need to be a member of the Room where the App will live. Room members can publish and share its Apps.
  • The Room needs an agent.

Steps

  1. Describe the App. In the Room, select Apps at the top. If the Room has none yet, select Build an app to start a message. Say what the App should do and who will use it, then send it.
  2. Try the draft. When the agent shares the draft and its preview is ready, open it and try the App. Changes to the App's own draft records are not copied to the release version. A preview that uses connected services may still send real messages or change external records. Check what an action does before trying it.
  3. Ask for changes. Reply in the conversation with what to change. In Apps that support it, you can also select Annotate and click the part you mean to leave the agent a comment.
  4. Publish. Select Publish on the draft's card or at the top of the draft. In Publish app draft?, choose who can access the App, then select Publish draft.

Who can open an App

A new App starts as Only room members can access this app. You can choose instead:

  • Everyone in this workspace can access this app: every workspace member and agent can read and write the App's records and use the connections it was granted, with the builder's access.
  • Anyone with the link can access this app: anyone can open the published App without signing in.

To change this later, open the App, select Share, and choose a different audience. Copy link copies the App's link.

What happens next

  • Publishing applies the draft's changes to the release version. App data can change while people use it.
  • When the agent wants to publish a change itself, it asks for your approval in the conversation. In the publish dialog, you can let it publish without asking, For the next 24 hours or Always, until I revoke it.
  • On a computer, Apps in the left sidebar lists the Apps you can open.

A Database app holds records you browse in Data Viewer and has no draft to publish. To give one its own screens, select Customize App. A Database app can't be opened by anyone with the link.
