Kylon vs Clay

Clay researches the account. Kylon does the work on it.

Kylon is a workspace where agents sit with the team, read the thread and the tools you connected, and hand back the records, the dashboard and the email draft for one person to approve.

Choose Clay if

A research and enrichment layer that writes back to the CRM.

Choose Kylon if

01 Which one is the right answer

Not every team should pick the same one.

Clay is the right answer when

The job is finding and qualifying accounts at volume: building a list, running it through providers in sequence, researching every row and pushing the result into the CRM and the sequencer.

Kylon is the right answer when

The account is already yours and the work is what happens after the research: the thread with the buyer, the record that is three fields behind, and the reply someone has to write and approve.

How each one works

Every statement about Clay below cites Clay's own documentation. Checked 2026-09-16. Clay does not present itself as the CRM of record: its own guide puts the record in a CRM such as Salesforce and places Clay as the layer that researches, enriches, scores and activates, then writes back.

Where the work happens
ClayWork splits across Audiences, which hold account and contact records and segments, Tables, a row and column surface for multi step enrichment, and Workflows, a graph of connected nodes moving one record or event through branches and actions.Source: Audiences, Workbooks, and Tables explained, Clay University
KylonThe work happens in the room where the team already talks about the account. The request, what the agent read, and what it produced are one thread.
Who keeps the records current
ClayRows arrive from list builders, CRM sources, webhooks or CSV files, and source runs can be scheduled. Waterfalls try providers in a configured order, and the HubSpot integration can import, create, look up, update and associate objects, with updates requiring the HubSpot object ID.Source: Sources, Clay Docs
KylonAn agent reads the mailbox, the calendar and the thread you granted it, then writes the contact, the company and the stage change as a proposed change you can see before it lands.
What the assistant does
ClayClaygents take row or workflow inputs, follow a prompt, use configured tools such as web search, and return structured research, scoring, classification or copy. Account Agents work across account segments with persistent context and a set of allowed actions.Source: Claygent, AI agents for GTM, Clay
KylonAn agent answers with the work attached: the record changes it proposes, the view it built and the email it drafted, each with the message or file it came from.
Who approves what it does
ClayClay describes Account Agent results being written to a CRM or warehouse after human approval, with the agent's reasoning and allowed actions open to inspection. Workflow edits autosave but do not reach live triggers until a user publishes them.Source: Account research agents, Clay Docs
KylonApproval is the shape of every run, and it happens in the team's thread. One approve control covers the records, the view and the email draft together.
Reaching email and calendar
ClaySequencer sends cold email campaigns from Audience segments or table rows through connected sender accounts, and replies are handled in a workspace wide inbox. Clay also documents pushing enriched leads into external sequencing tools.Source: Getting started with Sequencer, Clay Docs
KylonThe mailbox and calendar are workspace connections the agent reads, including the reply thread on a deal that is already open, and outbound email comes back as a draft card rather than a campaign send.
What setting up automation takes
ClayA table starts by selecting and configuring a source, previewing it and importing rows, then adding enrichment columns. A workflow starts from a trigger, an Audience segment or an imported table schema, then connects enrichment, function, Claygent, conditional, code, delay and write back nodes.Source: Workflows, Clay Docs
KylonYou describe the outcome in the room. If it should repeat, the same request is saved as a scheduled or event driven run, and its output stays in the room.

What Kylon is for

Kylon is the layer where the work is asked for and approved, reading the tools you already run and returning records, dashboards and drafts into the conversation that produced them. Building and running a provider waterfall over thousands of rows is a different job, and Clay is built for it. Teams run both: Clay finds and researches, Kylon carries the account after that.

Questions people ask

Is Clay a CRM?
Clay's own guide puts the record in a CRM such as Salesforce and describes Clay as the layer that researches, enriches, scores and activates, then writes results back to the systems teams work in.
Can we use both?
Yes, and most teams that run Clay should. Clay builds and researches the list, and the agent in your room takes the accounts that reply.
Does Kylon send email campaigns?
No. Email comes back as a draft for a person to send, one thread at a time. Sequencing at campaign volume belongs in a sending tool.
